(Lakefield, Mn.)– The Jackson County Relay For Life is coming up this Wednesday, June 17th, at the North City Park in Lakefield. Organizer Sara Thompson says it starts at 5:00 pm with the Walk of Honor…
“And then as well as our burger feed will start then, we will have some entertainment by Lynn Mullens from 5:00 to 6:00 and then that takes us into some later festivities as well. A silent auction will be running from 5:00 until 7:30 and then starting in the evening later we’ll have root beer floats and then again the BINGO put on by the Lakefield Lions which was a big hit last year and we are excited to have that again this year.”
She says proceeds from some of the events will go to local organizations that provide support services to cancer patients…
“The money from the burger feed will be staying with our local Huskies Fighting Cancer group that does help people in our community with gas cards and some other things of that nature that that organization sees fit, and then the money from the Lions will stay with the Lakefield Lions and that is for their national work that they do with childhood cancer.”
Thompson says proceeds from some of the other activities will go to the American Cancer Society…
“The other funds that we raise through sponsorships and then through the ribbon sales, that will be given back to the American Cancer Society on the national level which does go to research and other programs that are available for survivors to tap into once they have that diagnosis.”
Wednesday’s Relay For Life event is being held in conjunction with Summerfest in Lakefield, which kicked off today (Mon.) and runs throughout the week.
