ISU Extension and Outreach to host Women Managing Farmland Program January 27 in Milford

December 21, 2021 Becky Thoreson

Iowa State Unversity Extension and Outreach will host Women Managing Farmland on January 27 at the Milford Community Center.

Dickinson County Ag Coordinator Madeline Smith says the program is designed to meet the needs of women farmland owners and managers:

“This is a program offering that kind of started with the concept that women own nearly half the farmland in Iowa, so their decisions play a pretty critical role in Iowa agriculture. So, we wanted to be able to serve the women in Iowa and meet their needs as farmland owners. Essentially, this meeting is going to go over a few topics quite briefly, but then, it’s going to really give an opportunity to make connections with experts in the agricultural field that could help them when it comes to topics like farmland leasing and value, federal farm programs, succession planning and, if they’re starting to utilize their land and starting a farm, getting connected with the Beginning Farmer’s Center. But then, also we really wanted to put an emphasis on networking with peers for this program, so hopefully the women who do attend this will be able to meet some of the other women farmland owners in the area.”

She notes that the event is free, however preregistration is requested:

“We would absolutely love to have you. It is free. We will have a light dinner provided because it is from 5-8 p.m., but we do request, because we’re providing food that, we know you’re coming. So, you can give Dickinson County or Clay County offices a phone call to preregister.”
