(Arnolds Park)– The Iowa Rock ‘n Roll Music Association has announced nominations for its 2008 Hall of Fame induction ceremony to be held this coming August 30th and 31st at the Roof Garden in Arnolds Park.
They include trombonist/writer/arranger Nick Lane; the ITBC Band; and disc jockey Wayne Johnson…all from northeast Iowa.
Inductees from southeast Iowa are bands Enoch Smoky and the Daybreakers.
Central Iowa inductees this year are bands Terra Firma and Sky Dancer along with promoter Music Circuit Productions, Incorporated.
Southwest Iowa will be represented by guitarist to the stars Marvin Ross and radio station KMA of Shenandoah.
Inductees from west-central Iowa are the bands The Establishment and the Silver Strings.
Northwest Iowa honorees are Billy Rat and The Finks; The Petites; and the Woodcliff Ballroom of Spencer. Also from Spencer is the inductee in the “Women Who Rocked” category, Vicki Lutes.
A 94-year-old ticket taker at the Lake Robbins Ballroom in Woodward is the Support Staff inductee in 2008. Kip Stafford has been working in that ticket booth since the ballroom opened 76 years ago.
The lone inductee outside of Iowa is the Nebraska band–The Coachmen.
The 2008 Iowa Rock ‘n Roll Dan Matousek Lifetime Achievement Award will be presented to promoter, radio personality, performer, recording artist Smokey Smith. Smith is credited for booking Elvis Presley in Veteran’s Auditorium in Des Moines back in 1956…the first Iowa appearance for “The King”.
