(Estherville)– Authorities say the stretch of road where Wednesday’s fatal crash involving an ILCC bus has a history of being dangerous. Speaking during a press conference Thursday, Lieutenant Aaron Smidt of the Iowa State Patrol says the location of the crash on Highway 4 about a mile and-a-half north of Highway 20 in Calhoun county has a history of bad accidents…
“It’s an S curve, if everybody’s familiar with what that is. And again that bus, just for unknown reasons, you know, left the roadway in that curve and entered that ditch. We’ve had, I believe, four fatalities at that location in the last 10 years. It’s an active area for us, but four fatalities in 10 years.”
Lieutenant Smidt emphasized the cause of the crash is still under investigation.
