Iowa Lakes Community College to host 7th Annual Heartland Honor Choir October 21

October 14, 2021 Becky Thoreson

The Heartland Honor Choir will perform next week, KUOO’s Becky Thoreson has details:

Iowa Lakes Community College will host the 7th Annual Heartland Honor Choir on October 21.

Vocal Music Professor Brett Fuelberth says the choir will feature students from many area schools. “We have nine high schools coming in. We have students from Spirit Lake and Estherville-Lincoln Central, Graettinger-Terril, Ruthven-Ayshire, Newell-Fonda, North Union, North Iowa, Pocahontas and South O’Brien, so lots of schools are bringing choir students in, and we should have a choir of over 180 singers coming together. It’s going to make quite the sound, so we’re excited to get them all on campus and into our performing arts center.”

He adds that the event will also feature a special guest conductor. “Dr. Kurt Runestad, he is from Doane College, is coming in. He was actually at the first Heartland Honor Choir, directed that on campus that we had, so we thought that he would be a great one to bring back because the students loved him so much, to have at the first time we’re at the performing arts center. So, he’s coming back again. He picked some outstanding music for them and they’re going to sing that and it’s going to be an outstanding performance.”

The Concert will be held at 6 o’clock Thursday evening at the Janice K. Lund Performing Arts Center in Estherville. Tickets are $5.
