Many area students will perform at the Iowa Lakes Community College next week, KUOO’s Becky Thoreson has details:

The Iowa Lakes Community College Music Department will host the Show and Jazz Choir Festival next week.

Vocal Music Professor Brett Fuelberth says dozens of area middle and high school students will perform. “We have 28 choirs, for a lot of them, their first time to get out and perform for the season, and we get to feature them in our brand new performing arts center this year. We’ve got a lot of the area schools, which is great. It will be both show choirs and jazz choirs , so, you know, Spirit Lake, Okoboji, Estherville, Emmetsburg, Graettinger-Terril, Ruthven-Ayrshire, North Union, just a lot of our local schools.”

He notes that the performances are free and open to the public. “It’s free to the public, no cost to the event, and you get a chance to watch them perform. The schedule is on the Iowa Lakes website, but pretty much every day we start at 8:20, most the days, and I guess on Thursday at 7:40 in the morning, and it runs throughout the day until usually about 3:30. We’ve got clinicians here, great clinicians, that drive in for it and they’ll come up on stage. It’s kind of fun to watch them work with them and see them improve on stage. “

The Festival will run Tuesday through Thursday at the Janice K. Lund Performing Arts Center on the Estherville Campus.
