(Des Moines)– The Iowa Department of Natural Resources is seeking public comment on its updated list of impaired waterways in the state.
Several bodies of water in Dickinson county that have been on the list in previous years remain. They include Emmerson Bay of West Lake Okoboji, Lower Gar, Center Lake, Diamond Lake, Little Spirit Lake, Pleasant Lake, Swan Lake and the Little Sioux River. Silver Lake at Lake Park is being added for turbidity and Prairie Lake for phosphorous.
Two lakes in Dickinson county, Marble Lake and Minnewashta Lake, are proposed to be dropped from the list. Approval would be needed from the federal Environmental Protection Agency to remove those lakes.
A complete list of impaired waterways in Iowa can be seen at newly released draft impaired waters list.
Public comment is welcomed now through March 19, 2022, and should be sent to: Iowa Department of Natural Resources Attn: Impaired Waters/Segment List Water Quality Monitoring & Assessment Section Wallace State Office Building 502 E. Ninth St. Des Moines, IA 50319
