(Spirit Lake)– Intense downpours that took place early today (Monday) flooded several intersections in Spirit Lake and had some homeowners busy cleaning their basements.
The downpours came on the heels of this past weekend’s torrential rains. As of noon today (Monday), 7.69 inches of rain had fallen at the KUOO studios since it all started around 1:30 a.m. Saturday.
Other than some street flooding and water in basements, Mike Ehret of Dickinson County Emergency Management says the problems have been fairly minor. He says heavy rains here and upstream in southwest Minnesota will likely push lakes and rivers up. He says the Little Sioux River could see some flooding if predictions for additional rain come true.
The National Weather Service says thunderstorms and the threat of heavy rain remains in the forecast through atleast Thursday.
