Incident Lands Spencer Man In Jail On Several Charges

November 22, 2014

(Spencer)– A Spencer man faces multiple charges following an incident this past Friday on West Park Street in Spencer.

The Clay County Sheriff’s Office says a deputy noticed a male who was acting suspiciously. The deputy made contact with the man, identified as 25-year-old Luis Escalante-Mejia. Based on field sobriety tests, authorities determined Escalante-Mejia was intoxicated and was placed under arrest.

After conducting a pat-down of Escalante-Mejia, a deputy found a wallet with a VFW card in it that had another man’s name on it. The deputy also found other items with the other man’s name on them. Authorities also determined the wallet had been stolen and that a credit card in it had been used at a Spencer convenience store.

Escalante-Mejia was charged with unauthorized use of a credit card…an aggravated misdemeanor; theft in the fourth degree…a serious misdemeanor; and public intoxication…a simple misdemeanor.
