ILCC Trustees Approve Tuition Increase

November 22, 2014

(Spirit Lake)– It’s going to cost more to attend Iowa Lakes Community College in the next school year.

Meeting Tuesday in Spirit Lake, the college’s trustees voted to set tuition for Iowa and Minnesota residents at 120-dollars per credit hour…up seven dollars per credit hour from last year. Non-residents and international students will pay 122-dollars per credit hour. Mandatory fees weren’t changed. Some adjustments were made to fees for various programs.

While the college received increased funding from the legislature this session, the amount wasn’t as high as what had been estimated earlier in the session. And college officials say the increase wasn’t enough to cover past losses in state funding. Had they received what was originally anticipated, college officials say the tuition increases would have been more in the line of four to five dollars per credit hour.

In other business, trustees set June 5th as the date for a public hearing and bid opening on a wrestling facility that would be constructed just south of the student center at the Estherville campus. Drawings and specifications on the project have been completed. If things go as planned, college officials hope to have the facility operational by this coming October 1st.
