ILCC Trustees Approve Charter School, Grant Applications

November 22, 2014

(Estherville)– The board of trustees of Iowa Lakes Community College Tuesday gave the go-ahead to proceed with the Graettinger-Terril school district with a joint application with the Iowa Department of Education for a charter school. If approved, the college would provide dual credit courses which could be transferred to Iowa Lakes or other institutions of higher education. The goal of the charter school is to increase course offerings beyond the current scope of the Graettinger-Terril High School.

Trustees also approved four grant applications to the Palo Alto Gaming Development Corporation. They include a request for matching funds for the Regional Emergency Response Training Center which the college has already received a 400-thousand dollar grant from the state; a divider for the gym at the Smith Wellness Center; for a science-based project focused on increasing parental interest and engagement for all Palo Alto county school districts; and for an automated timing system for the pool at the Smith Wellness Center that would allow the facility to host large swim meets.
