(Sibley)– This (Monday) morning’s snow storm is being blamed for a mishap in Osceola county that sent five people to the hospital.
The Osceola County Sheriff’s Office says 38-year-old Jon Battleson of Albert Lea, Minnesota was driving a 2007 Freightliner semi southbound on Highway 60 about a mile east of Sibley when he pulled off the road and turned on flashers to help a motorist who had gone into the ditch.
Another vehicle, driven by 22-year-old Secedri Hernandez of Worthington came upon the scene and collided with the trailer of the semi.
Hernandez and four passengers in his vehicle were taken to the Osceola Community Hospital in Sibley with possible injuries. No injuries were reported to Battleson.
Five thousand dollars in damage was estimated to a 2001 Saturn driven by Hernandez; the semi, owned by NIM Transportation of Norfolk, Nebraska sustained an estimated 100-dollars in damage.
Authorities say the road was 100 percent snow-covered at the time.
