(Emmetsburg)– An Algona man was killed in a two-vehicle accident around 1:30 a.m. Saturday on Highway 18 in Palo Alto county.
The Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office reports a 1993 Jeep driven by Addison Fischer of Algona was eastbound on Highway 18 when he crossed the center line and collided with a 1997 tow truck driven by Joseph Jennings of Spirit Lake.
Fischer was killed in the head-on crash.
A passenger in the Jennings vehicle, Bill Pearson of Fostoria, was taken to the Palo Alto County Hospital. There was no immediate word on his condition or extent of injuries.
Jennings refused treatment.
Damage to the tow truck was estimated at 25-thousand dollars; the Fischer vehicle was totaled.
The Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by fire departments from Rodman, Cylinder, and Emmetsburg along with the Palo Alto County Ambulance, Iowa State Patrol, the Reserve Unit of the Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office and the Emmetsburg Police Department.
