(Arnolds Park)—Some paper that got on a hot coil in a furnace resulted in smoke getting into several condominiums and a hallway yesterday (Sat.) in the Golden Gate Building of the Bridges Bay complex just east of Arnolds Park.
Arnolds Park/Okoboji Fire Chief Chris Yungbluth says firefighters were called to the scene shortly after 2:00 p.m. after getting a report of a possible electrical fire.
Upon investigating firefighters found some burned papers in the ductwork and on the furnace coils. Yungbluth believes a manual or warning notice had been left in the furnace.
Yungbluth says the owners of the unit stated this was the first time they had turned on the heat in the unit.
He says the fire had burned itself out, but firefighters remained on the scene to ventilate smoke. Electricity to the unit was also shut off until the furnace could be repaired.
No injuries were reported.
Damage to the condo was estimated at about 500-dollars.
Firefighters were on the scene about an hour and 40 minutes.
The Arnolds Park-Okoboji Fire Department was assisted by the Milford Fire Department and the Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office.
