Hill Avenue Project Expected To Cause Traffic Issues Near SL Schools

November 22, 2014

(Spirit Lake)– School starts Tuesday for students in the Spirit Lake Community School District. And school officials have a word of advice for those who will be travelling and walking in the area of the schools: use extra caution and allow for some extra time.

As was the case at the end of the last school year, Superintendent Tim Grieves says the ongoing Hill Avenue South Project is going to cause more headaches as we start the new school year.

Grieves says temporary crossings will be established at the 25th and 29th Street intersections with Hill Avenue for those walking to and from the Elementary, Middle and High Schools.

Grieves says vehicle traffic to the Middle and Elementary School will need to enter from Erie Avenue, then enter and exit from 28th Street. High School traffic may enter from the south off 28th Street or from the east off Erie Avenue. All traffic exiting the High School should exit east onto Erie.

Grieves adds school buses will load like they did at the end of the last school year behind the Middle School and Elementary School entering on Erie Avenue and exiting on Erie Avenue.

Grieves says they expect at least two weeks of temporary routes until Hill Avenue is reopened.
