High Speed Pursuit In Spencer Ends With Crash And Two Arrests

(Spencer)– Charges have been filed against two men who led police in Spencer on a high speed pursuit Tuesday while operating motorcycles on the city’s south side.

The Spencer Police Department says an officer was attempting to conduct a traffic stop on the motorcycles for speeding near the intersection of Grand Avenue and 1st Street when they fled. A pursuit ensued that went through South Grand Plaza Drive, then westbound on 11th Street Southwest into the county. Speeds were as high as 140 mph.

Police say the pursuit ended at the intersection of 400th Street and Highway 71 following an unintentional collision involving a police vehicle and one of the motorcycles. The motorcyclist, 22-year-old Tristan Russell of Spencer, fled on foot but was apprehended after being tased. The second motorcyclist, 21-year-old Chase Cook of Winterset, also fled. He was located and apprehended about an hour later near the Reston Inn in Spencer.

Russell was charged with eluding and driving under suspension. Cook was charged with eluding and driving without a license. Both were additionally charged with numerous traffic violations.

Russell and Cook were both being held in the Clay County Jail on a $2,500 bond.
