Hearing Scheduled In SL Shooting Case That Happened Nearly One Year Ago

November 22, 2014

(Spirit Lake)– It’s been nearly a year since a Worthington, Minnesota man was shot and killed in a freak incident in downtown Spirit Lake.

A Spirit Lake man, 55-year-old Kenneth Neilson, was charged with involuntary manslaughter and discharging a weapon in city limits in the incident that claimed the life of 53-year-old Marlan Lutterman of Worthington.

A court hearing in that case is scheduled for this coming monday to determine whether or not there is good cause to continue the trial, currently set for July 22nd, beyond the one-year anniversary of the event.

Authorities say Neilson was cleaning his gun in his downtown Spirit Lake apartment when he nearly dropped it. The gun discharged, with the bullet striking Lutterman who was standing on the street below next to his motorcycle.
