(Spirit Lake)– A Spirit Lake woman charged back in 2005 for allegedly stealing money from what was known as the “Before and After School”, or BASS program, has entered an Alford plea of guilty to a charge of theft in the first degree.
The written plea was filed Friday in Dickinson County District Court on Margaret “Meg” Waltz’s behalf by her attorney, James Clarity.
Waltz, who headed the BASS program, faces up to 10 years in prison and a maximum fine of up to 10-thousand dollars.
A sentencing date hasn’t been set.
A trial in the case was scheduled to start Tuesday in Dickinson County District Court.
Waltz was charged after a state audit turned up some questionable expenditures and payments of more than 400-thousand dollars.
