(Gruver)– The Emmet county town of Gruver is getting a new sanitary sewer system thanks to a combined funding package.
The project has a total estimated cost of slightly more than 631-thousand dollars. Of that, 251-thousand is in the form of a loan through the USDA Rural Development Program; with another 278-thousand in the form of a grant through the agency. 102-thousand dollars will come in the form of a Community Development Block Grant through the Iowa Department of Economic Development.
The town is currently served by septic tanks…some of which are failing. The Iowa Department of Natural Resources has notified the city it must fix the problems.
The project will result in a centralized collection system and lagoon that will meet DNR regulations. The system will be operated by Clay Regional Water under an intergovernmental agreement with the city.
