Four New Outdoor Warning Sirens Installed In Dickinson County

November 22, 2014

(Spirit Lake)—Four new sirens recently put up in unincorporated areas of Dickinson county are now operational.

The sirens have been installed at Elinor Bedell State Park, near Camp Foster on East Lake Okoboji, near Methodist Camp and Okoboji View Golf Course.

The new sirens were tested Friday.

Mike Ehret, Dickinson County Emergency Management Coordinator, says plans are in the works to install seven more sirens over the next three to four years.

He emphasizes the sirens are intended to be heard OUTDOORS only. Ehret says you should use a radio, television or a weather radio to keep up on dangerous weather when you’re indoors.

Ehret also reminds everyone NOT to call 911 when sirens are going off.
