Flood Warnings Continue On Area Rivers; Only Minor Flooding Reported So Far

(Undated)– Minor flooding continues along area rivers as a result of the recent snowmelt.

Flood warnings continue for the Rock River near Rock Rapids; the Floyd River near Alton; the Ocheyedan River near Spencer and the Little Sioux River near Milford and Spencer. A Flood Advisory is in effect for the West Fork of the Des Moines River at Estherville.

The Ocheyedan River at Spencer was measured at 8.8 feet Monday evening. Flood stage is eight feet. The river rose above flood stage around 4:00 p.m. Monday and is expected to remain above flood stage the next five days.

The Little Sioux River west of Milford was measured at 12 feet at 4:00 p.m. Monday. Flood stage in that area is 12 feet.

The Little Sioux at Spencer was estimated at 10.2 feet Monday evening. Flood stage is 10 feet. The river rose above flood stage around 5:00 p.m. Monday. It’s expected to drop below flood stage around 1:00 a.m. Saturday.

The West Fork of the Des Moines River at Estherville was measured at eight feet at 10:00 p.m. Monday. Flood stage is seven feet. The river rose above flood stage around 6:00 p.m. Monday and is expected to continue rising until it reaches a crest of about 9.1 feet this (Tuesday) evening. The river is expected to quickly drop below flood stage Wednesday.
