(Arnolds Park)– Firefighters from several area departments battled a large grass fire late Saturday afternoon in the area of County Road M-56 and 185th Street. A press release from the Milford Fire Department says the fire was burning in a DNR wildlife area and that the wind was pushing it into a large expanse of grass and wetlands. The release states the fire had apparently started on a neighboring property.
In addition to Milford, the Arnolds Park-Okoboji and Spirit Lake Fire Departments were called for mutual aid. Firefighters spent a little more than three hours on the scene. Officials say some 30 acres of land burned.
There was no immediate word as to how the fire started.
