Fire Damages Pole Barn Near Montgomery

November 22, 2014

(Montgomery)– Fire damaged a pole barn this (Thursday) afternoon on the Don Lago farm northeast of Montgomery.

Assistant Spirit Lake Fire Chief Pat Daly tells KUOO news firefighters were called to 1992 140th Street around 1:00 p.m. Daly says a trash fire got out of hand and quickly spread to the pole barn as a result of the very dry conditions. Daly says some round bales of corn stalks stored inside caught on fire. He says a tractor was used to haul the bales out where firefighters sprayed foam and water on them.

Daly says damage to the barn was pretty much contained to some rafters which sustained moderate damage.

The Lake Park Fire Department was called to assist in hauling water.

Daly says the Lakes Regional Healthcare Ambulance stood by on the scene as a precaution, but no injuries were reported.

Firefighters were on the scene about two hours.

Daly highly discourages any open burning right now. He says the fire danger is extremely high due to the very dry conditions.
