Fiber Cut Knocks Out Phone Service To Lyon, Osceola, Sioux Counties

November 22, 2014

(Undated)– Thousands of northwest Iowa residents were without phone service Monday afternoon and evening after a telephone fiber was cut.

Customers of Hickory Tech were affected. That included the communities of Akron, Boyden, Chatsworth, Doon, Hawarden, Hull, Ireton, Rock Rapids, Rock Valley, Sibley and Westfield.

Service was lost around 2:45 p.m. A company spokeswoman, Jennifer Spaude, says an external party cut a fiber, causing the outage.

Hickory Tech is a Mankato, Minnesota-based company that offers communication products and services to businesses and residential customers over a regional fiber optics network.
