(Washington, DC)– Iowa’s congressional delegation is urging the Biden Administration to approve Governor Reynolds’ request for federal disaster assistance in 25 counties. The National Weather Service says the December 15th severe storms produced a record 61 tornadoes across Iowa.
Iowa’s U-S senators and representatives wrote, “the Governor determined that this incident is of such severity and magnitude that effective response is beyond the capabilities of the State and affected local governments, and supplementary federal assistance is necessary to save lives and to protect property, public health and safety, or to lessen or avert the threat of a disaster.”
Federal assistance was requested for a number of counties including Buena Vista, Cherokee, Emmet, Palo Alto, Pocahontas, and Sac counties in northwest Iowa.
