Faulty Wiring Sited As Cause Of SL House Fire

November 22, 2014

(Spirit Lake)– a problem with some electrical wiring between the first floor ceiling and the second floor on the southeast side of the house has been ruled the probable cause of a fire that heavily damaged a house Tuesday at 603 22nd Street in Spirit Lake.

From there, officials say the fire burned up through the second floor and followed a stairway into the attic.

The occupants of the residence, Lloyd Abbey and family, weren’t home at the time.

Firefighters were able to reach the fire by using the aerial truck and cutting a hole in the roof.

There was smoke damage throughout the home with heavy fire damage to trusses between the first and second floors.

Damage estimates could reach 100-thousand dollars.
