Extension Sought On Validity Of Digital TV Coverter Box Coupons

November 22, 2014

(Washington, D.C.)– If you’re among those who have obtained a coupon to supplement the price of a converter box needed to make the switch from analog T.V. to digital, you’ll want to check the expiration date on it.

The coupons are valid only for up to 90 days.

U-S Senator Tom Harkin says due to a variety of reasons, many people haven’t been able to use the coupons before they expired. Factors include a lack of boxes in stock at local retailers.

Harkin recently sent a letter to the National Telecommunications Information Administration requesting they re-issue expired coupons.

As of this coming February, every television with an antenna will need to have a converter box to receive the new digital signal. Those served by cable or satellite systems won’t need the box.

You also won’t need it if you’ve recently purchased a television with a digital tuner.
