(Primghar)– Three Estherville men have been charged in connection with a series of burglaries in O’Brien county in late September and mid-October.
20-year-old Travis Bates of Estherville, formerly of Primghar, was charged with eight counts of third degree burglary. 19-year-old Chad Ukasick of Estherville was charged with five counts of third degree burglary; and 19-year-old Travis Ukasick…also of Estherville…was charged with five counts of third degree burglary.
Authorities say the first series of burglaries occurred in the early morning of September 30th when Bates is alleged to have committed burglaries at the Primghar Country Club, Randy’s Phillips 66 and the Barama Drug Store all in Primghar. The businesses were forcibly entered and an undisclosed amount of cash and liquor was taken.
The second series of burglaries took place in the early morning of October 14th when Bates, Chad Ukasick and Travis Ukasick are alleged to have forcefully gained entry to the Sanborn Country Club, Meadowbrook Country Club in Hartley, the Paullina Country Club, Candi’s Pizza Parlor in Paullina and the Paullina American Legion. An undisclosed amount of cash and liquor was taken from the businesses.
Travis Bates was arrested January 13th. He was released from jail the next morning after posting a one thousand dollar surety on a 10-thousand dollar cash bond. Chad Ukasick and Travis Ukasick were arrested at their home in Estherville Thursday. They made an initial court appearance this (Friday) morning and were released after posting a 10-thousand dollar cash bond each.
Each of the individual counts of third degree burglary is a class “D” felony, which carries a maximum penalty of five years in prison and up to a 7,500-dollar fine.
The Sanborn Police Department assisted in the investigation, which continues.
