(Estherville)– An elderly woman has been rescued from the trunk of a car.
The Emmet County Sheriff’s Office says a landowner found what looked like an abandoned vehicle Wednesday afternoon. A man reportedly looked into the car, found a hole in the back seat and discovered there was a person inside the trunk.
Sheriff’s officials say when deputies arrived they talked with the 70-year-old woman and eventually found keys and opened the trunk. They did not identify the woman, who they say was dehydrated and incoherent.
Authorities say foul play is not suspected.
Sheriff’s officials say Spirit Lake police had notified law enforcement on Monday that an elderly woman was reported missing. They didn’t confirm whether it was the same woman who was found in the trunk on Wednesday.
