(Sioux Falls, S.D.)– A Sioux Falls-based company says it’s been able to produce ethanol from corn cobs.
Poet received a federal grant to find ways to make ethanol out of plants and plant materials other than the corn kernel.
The company says it will expand on what’s known as cellulosic production at its ethanol plant in Emmetsburg.
Poet was formerly known as Broin. It says using cobs and other plant material will boost ethanol production with little extra work or impact on the environment, and without increasing corn acreage.
