Dreaming Of A White Xmas? Forecasters Say Dream No More

November 22, 2014

(Spirit Lake)– There’s only a week to go now before Christmas, and there’s still no snow on the ground.

But don’t despair if you’re dreaming of a white Christmas.

Jeff Chapman, a Meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Sioux Falls says we traditionally have a 60 percent chance of experiencing a white Christmas in this part of the country. Chapman says there must be atleast an inch of snow on the ground to qualify for a white Christmas, and he says a system in the middle of the week may deliver that.

Chapman says precipitation will likely start off in the form of freezing rain beginning Wednesday afternoon and continuing through Wednesday night, with accumulating snow possible Thursday through Friday. Dry and colder conditions are expected for the upcoming Christmas holiday weekend.
