DNR Says Lost Island Fish Kill Was Act Of Nature

November 22, 2014

(Ruthven)– Stress associated with spring spawning has been identified by the Iowa Department of Natural Resources as the cause of a recent fish kill on Lost Island Lake near Ruthven.

The Iowa Department of Natural Resources says about 500 fish, mostly crappies, were killed.

DNR Fisheries Biologist Mike Hawkins says they started getting reports on the fish kill June 7th.

He says most of the dead fish were found near the South Shore Estates Canal on the south side of the lake and near a public beach on the northeast side.
