(Des Moines)– The much below normal temperatures have been good for one thing: the DNR says it’s pushing back the deadline for removing permanent ice fishing shelters from Iowa lakes.
The new deadline is March 1st. Typically it’s February 20th.
Marion Conover, Chief of the DNR’s Fishery Bureau, says extending the deadline is reasonable in light of the cold weather and very thick ice.
Conover says it should help make up for a slow start to the ice fishing season when conditions were poor.
