Ditched Vehicle Results In Charges Against Two People (1)

November 22, 2014

(Spencer)– Charges have been filed against two men in connection with a single vehicle mishap that took place Sunday in Clay county.

The Sheriff’s Office says 52-year-old Harold Clay of Armstrong was driving a 1988 Oldsmobile west on Clay County Road B-53 when the vehicle veered off onto the right shoulder. Authorities say Clay over-corrected and lost control. The vehicle slid sideways across the road and went into the left ditch where it rolled several times, coming to rest on its wheels. After several unsuccessful attempts to drive it out of the ditch, authorities say Clay and a passenger, Lee Lemke of Swea City, got out of it and tried to flag down a passing motorist.

The two men were arrested when a deputy arrived on the scene a short time later.

Clay was charged with operating while intoxicated, first offense; Lemke was charged with public intoxication.

Minor cuts and bruises were reported to both men.

Damage to the vehicle was estimated at three thousand dollars.

The incident took place around 6:00 p.m. Sunday.
