Dickinson Supervisors Table Action On Proposed Pipeline/Utility Ordinance

February 15, 2022 Steve Schwaller

(Spirit Lake)– The Dickinson County Board of Supervisors today (Tues.) tabled action on a proposed ordinance intended to protect drainage districts from damage stemming from pipeline and other utility projects. In part, it would charge a company $1 million in exchange for allowing them to cross the districts. That money would be held by the county for five years to cover any expenses associated with any damage caused by a project. What’s left would be refunded to the company after the 5 years.

Assistant County Attorney Steve Goodlow said he heard from an attorney with one of the carbon dioxide pipeline companies that are proposing to build lines through the county. Goodlow said they’re requesting the purpose of the deposit fee being more clearly spelled out. The supervisors today (Tues.) directed Goodlow to make the clarifications. The matter will come back to the supervisors at their March 1st meeting.
