Dickinson Supervisors Request D-O-T Speed Study

November 22, 2014

(Milford)– The Dickinson county board of supervisors again this week took no action on a request from the city of Milford to lower the speed limit on a portion of County Road A-34 on the west edge of Milford. Instead, the supervisors Tuesday decided to have the Iowa Department of Transportation conduct a study on the matter.

In other business, the supervisors granted an easement to Clay Regional Water allowing them to construct a water line near the nature center at Kenue Park. The easement was approved pending approval of the U-S Army Corps of Engineers, since the county plans to use that site in the future as a wetland mitigation area for the road department.

With all the rain the area’s received in the past week, talk turned to the potential for future flooding of the Iowa Great Lakes. One supervisor, Mardi Allen, expressed concern over any liability such a flood may or may not incur on the county. Irving Jensen, a resident on West Lake Okoboji, has been calling on the county to do more to increase the outflow at Lower Gar, saying West Lake is still holding too much water in times of high water. The supervisors plan to meet in the future with a representative of the U-S Army Corps of Engineers regarding the matter.

Supervisors also Tuesday voted to pay the county’s share of assessments on the Drainage District 22 project totaling 135,544-dollars.
