Dickinson Supervisors, P & Z Work To Improve Relations

November 22, 2014

(Spirit Lake)– In an effort to improve relations, the Dickinson county board of supervisors and the county’s Planning and Zoning Commission met in a joint session Wednesday evening to discuss issues that have confronted the bodies in recent weeks.

Both sides agreed more communication is needed. Supervisor Paul Johnson said he feels the P & Z has been unfairly singled out as being biased and says allegations that the commission is a rubber stamp aren’t fair. Having said that, Johnson then called on commission members to be diligent over any conflict of interest issues.

The size of the P & Z commission was also discussed. Siting the huge increase in development and other activity, Supervisor Pam Jordan suggested the size of the commission be increased from seven to nine members.

On another issue, supervisor Mardi Allen said she wants to review the policy pertaining to removal of a commission member.

While no formal decisions were made, the supervisors and P & Z members agreed to hold another joint meeting in the future to further discuss some of the issues.
