(Spirit Lake)– The Dickinson county board of supervisors today (Tues.) approved the hiring of two part-time jailers in the Sheriff’s Office.
Ashley Bolluyt of Estherville and Paul Molendorp of Spirit Lake were hired to the positions at a salary of $9.38 an hour. Sheriff Greg Baloun told the supervisors the additional help is needed to fill a temporary vacancy as one full-time jailer is currently out due to knee surgery. The hirings are effective immediately.
The supervisors deferred action on a request from the city of Milford to reduce the speed limit on county road A-34 on the city’s west side from 35 to 25 miles-per-hour. A Milford resident on hand for the meeting sited his opposition to the proposal, saying he feels the 25-mile-per-hour limit in that area would be too slow and would create a “speed trap”.
The supervisors also this (Tues.) morning said they want the Dickinson County Trails Association to stand by their original offer of contributing 50-thousand dollars to the widening of County Road M-56 along the east side of Big Spirit Lake. The association said it would re-direct the money to the Highway nine and 71 underpass project on the east side of Spirit Lake. But the supervisors said they feel the trails association should stand by their original intent of contributing the money to the M-56 project.
