(Spirit Lake)– The Dickinson County Board of Supervisors Tuesday will consider hiring an engineering firm to oversee construction of a second liquified carbon dioxide pipeline. Preliminary maps show this line, proposed by Navigator Ventures, going through extreme southern and southeastern Dickinson county.
The supervisors recently approved an engineering firm for the line being proposed by Summit Carbon Solutions that is being proposed to run through the eastern portion of the county. In that instance, the supervisors opted to wait to hire an engineering firm until after a public informational meeting was held by the Iowa Utilities Board. As of now, it isn’t certain when such a meeting for the Navigator Ventures line will be held locally.
The cost of the engineering firms will be paid for by the pipeline companies, with the county serving as a pass-through.
The pipelines are designed to reduce the carbon footprint of ethanol plants by capturing their carbon emissions, transforming them to a liquid. and injecting it into pipelines to be sent to underground storage facilities.
