(Spirit Lake)– A couple of gravel roads southwest of Milford will be paved in the near future as a result of action today (Tues.) by the Dickinson County Board of Supervisors. It followed a public hearing pertaining to 213th Avenue and 230th Street. County Engineer Dan Eckert estimated the cost at roughly $1.25 million…
“I’m a little nervous about that price. Oil, I just looked, is over $127 a barrel now today, so I’m a little nervous. This was before, you know, increases in prices galore, so we could be 50, $100,000 higher, I think, pretty easily depending on when it gets let and what happens with oil prices.”
A resident of that area spoke in favor of the project and read from a petition signed by adjoining residents and business owners who are also proponents of the project siting a high volume of truck traffic and dust…
“We believe that the road meets all of the D.O.T criteria and standards for paving; that paving this road has been in Dickinson county for 10 years, planned for over a decade. We’re also aware of the proposed paving of the road two miles south of Lake Park and paving 140th street east of Orleans that have significantly less traffic than 230th and 213th. We respectfully request that the same action be taken on the paving of 230th and 213th. Paving 230th and 213th I think would significantly reduce the threat to the safety and health and improve everyone’s environment in the vicinity including the Okoboji Middle School.”
There was no mention as to exactly when the paving would be done.
