Dickinson County Continues Talk On Possible Recycling Options & Concerns Over Plastic Shopping Bags
April 07, 2022Steve Schwaller
(Spirit Lake)– Discussions continue over what the future of recycling might look like in Dickinson county. Supervisor Kim Wermersen says he’s having regular conversations with landfill and recycling commission representatives. He says there’s growing concern over the proliferation of plastic bags…
“One of the things that we’ve been talking about is going to like Wal-Mart or Hy-Vee or all of the providers that do groceries and those types of things and see what we can do to get rid of these plastic bags, because they’re awful. And if you ever drive out by the landfill, it’s awful.”
And as far as recycling itself is concerned, Wermersen says they are assessing some possible options to help ease the load on some current drop-off sites…
“The commission is really now forward focused on, we’re either going to tackle this, we’re going to look at maybe three sites in the corridor of Dickinson county that’s available where people can recycle. So we’re looking at different options. I’m sure it’s going to come back to cost, like everything does. We will talk about that when we come up with a decision.”
Wermersen gave his update at this week’s Board of Supervisors meeting.
