(Spencer)– Two Dickinson county teenagers face several felonies after trying to cash stolen checks at a Spencer bank Tuesday.
Spencer police began their investigation after receiving a tip from a teller at Northwest Federal Savings Bank about a woman trying to cash stolen checks Tuesday afternoon. Soon thereafter, another call came into police from the south branch of the same bank about more suspicious check-cashing activity. Spencer police responded and arrested two people on the spot.
18-year-old Ami Jean Lange of Spirit Lake is charged with two counts of forgery, each a class “D” felony; and two counts of possession of stolen property, one count being a class “C” felony. Lange was booked into the Clay county jail with a nearly 33-thousand dollar bond.
Officers also arrested 16-year-old Michael Reason of Milford. He was charged with counts of forgery, each a class “D” felony; and two counts of possession of stolen property, with one count being a class “C” felony. Reason was also charged with being a felon in possession of a firearm. He was transported to the Youth Detention Center in Cherokee.
An investigation determined the checks were stolen during a car burglary in Milford early Tuesday.
Police expect to file additional charges against the two once their investigation is complete.
