Dickinson Co. Supervisors Schedule Hearing On Hog Lot

November 23, 2014

(Spirit Lake)– With the permit process for a four thousand head hog operation being built southwest of Milford apparently headed back to square one, the Dickinson County Board of Supervisors today (Tues.) scheduled a public hearing on the permit application for Tuesday, October 29th at 7:00 p.m. at the Milford Community Building. A 30-day period to submit comments in writing will open as soon as the county receives the notice from the Iowa Department of Natural Resources. As of this (Tues.) morning they hadn’t received it. The supervisors also decided to publish the notice of the permit application once they do get it.

According to David Stein, Senior, an attorney representing neighbors of the proposed operation, the county will have 14 days upon being contacted by the D-N-R to appeal any approval of the permit by the agency’s Environmental Protection Commission.

The supervisors also approved a list of procedures that will be followed in the future when the county receives notices from the D-N-R that a construction permit has been applied for. A similar procedure will be adopted in the future for manure management plans which are required for operations with 500 to a thousand animal units.
