Dickinson Co. Eligible For Federal Assistance Due To Blizzard

November 22, 2014

(Spirit Lake)– Add Dickinson, Plymouth and Woodbury counties to the list of counties eligible for federal disaster aid as the result of a blizzard that crippled the region in late February and early March.

Greg Hughes, a Public Affairs Officers with the Federal Emergency Managment Agency, says the three counties were added to the list last week. The original list included Buena Vista, Clay, Emmet, Kossuth, O’Brien, Palo Alto and Pocahontas counties locally.

Hughes says the assistance is available to state and eligible local governments on a cost-sharing basis for emergency protective measures undertaken to save lives and protect public health, safety and property during the storm.

Hughes says FEMA has already obligated more than 300-thousand dollars in grants as of April 5th to the state of Iowa through the public assistance program.

The state administers the program and allocates the money to the sub-applicants.
