Declining Membership In Once Powerful OPA Sparks Concern

November 23, 2014

(Wahpeton)– A decline in membership and finances is causing concern among board members of the Okoboji Protective Association.

The O-P-A was once reknown for its stance on the environment in the lakes area and issues such as the Highway 71 project. Now, the association’s President, Jane Shuttleworth, says they’re at a crossroads. Shuttleworth says membership has dropped to about 286 paid members.

Shuttleworth says a possible name-change for the O-P-A will be a topic of conversation at the association’s annual meeting later this summer.

Membership dues for the Okoboji Protective Association start at 25-dollars a year. And Shuttleworth says you don’t have to live on West Lake Okoboji to be a member.
