Crash Near Spencer Injures Three

November 22, 2014

(Spencer)– A two-vehicle crash Monday at the intersection of Highway 18 and Clay County Road M-50 sent three people to the hospital.

The Iowa State Patrol says 19-year-old Paul Becker of Spencer was southbound on County Road M-50 and failed to stop for a stop sign at the intersection with Highway 18, colliding with a vehicle driven by 21-year-old Joann Alvarez of Ruthven.

Alvarez and a passenger in her vehicle, 23-year-old Kevin Boothby of Estherville, were taken by ambulance to Spencer Hospital along with 19-year-old Hilary Klatt, a passenger in the vehicle driven by Becker.

A 1996 Plymouth Neon driven by Becker and a 1996 Mercury Sable driven by Alvarez had to be towed from the scene.

The collision took place around 4:30 p.m.

The State Patrol was assisted by the Spencer Police Department and the Clay County Sheriff’s Office.
