Court Motion Seeks Immediate Suspension Of Two SL School Bd. Members

November 22, 2014

(Spirit Lake)– A motion calling for the immediate suspension of Beth Will and Ann Goerss as President and Vice President, respectively, of the Spirit Lake school board was filed today (Wednesday) in Dickinson County District Court.

The motion sites two chapters of Iowa Code that provide for the immediate suspension from office for violations of Iowa law.

The motion states that…quote…”because these are serious allegations against the defendants, we believe that for the School District’s best interests, immediate action is required”…unquote. It mentions upcoming budget talks, the Physical Plant and Equipment vote March 18th and employee contracting.

Lonnie Saunders, the Spirit Lake School District’s Attorney, was out of the office late this (Wed.) afternoon and was not immediately available for comment.

The motion filed today (Wed.) was filed by the same five people who filed a petition Monday calling for the removal of the same two board members. Court documents identify them as Valentine Waltz, James Naujock, Elizabeth Simpson, Jeanne Lathrop and Deborah Wise.
