(Spirit Lake)– The Spirit Lake city council Tuesday set July 24th as the date for a public hearing on a Planning and Zoning Commission recommendation to rezone the site of the proposed Iowa Great Lakes Town Center.
The council also adopted a revised personnel policy manual; and took no action on an ordinance that would allow all-terrain-vehicles to be operated on certain streets.
The council also deferred action on a request from Shari Comstock regarding a breed of dog she has that falls under a city ordinance banning vicious animals. Comstock has a Staffordshire Terrier, that is banned under the ordinance.
Comstock, who recently moved to Spirit Lake with her young daughter, said she wasn’t aware of the ordinance until after getting a notice from police. Comstock pleaded that she be able to keep the dog and not be forced to move from the city, saying the dog poses no danger. She requested she be allowed to stay until atleast September, when her lease comes up.
