Contractors Reminded To Check Silt Fences

November 22, 2014

(Spirit Lake)– Heavy thunderstorms dumped more than an inch of rain on some areas this (Thursday) afternoon.

While severe weather wasn’t prevalent, the stronger storms did produce some pea-size hail.

With the first downpours of the season, Steve Anderson, an Urban Conservationist with the Dickinson County Soil and Water Conservation District, reminds contractors to keep an eye on silt fences.

Anderson says it’s up to contractors to make sure the fences are properly installed and doing their job. If not, he says they could be held responsible.

Anderson says contractors should also avoid getting soil and/or mud on hard surfaces.

He encourages the public to be on the lookout for any signs of erosion, silt fences not installed correctly or not installed at all; and silt or pollution washing into the lakes. Anderson says you should call the DNR office in Spencer to report such things. You can also call his office at 336-3782…extension three.

Anderson also encourages contractors to give him a call with any questions they may have.
