(Spirit Lake)– Spirit Lake High School Principal Jed Sherman has a new contract.
Meeting in special session this (Monday) morning, the Spirit Lake school board voted unanimously to grant a one-year probationary contract to Sherman for the 2007-2008 school year.
Terms of the agreement call for certain performance targets and standards to be met. Those will be developed by Superintendent Tim Grieves. The agreement says regular reviews will be held to ensure the goals and standards are being met.
Sherman is also to attend the School Administrators of Iowa Principal Leadership Academy sessions this summer, along with a Principal Leadership course in 2007-2008.
School officials haven’t said publicly why they earlier were thinking about not renewing Sherman’s contract. It caused a stir among many parents and students who said Sherman was doing a good job. They signed petitions calling on the superintendent and school board to renew his contract.
Board member Julie Nodland said this (Monday) morning she’s grateful an agreement has been reached and that the district can move forward from here.
